About this work

David kneels before the prophet Samuel, who will anoint him with oil from a horn to be king. David's harp lies before him. His father Jesse and brothers look on. Behind Samuel the head of a cow is sacrificed. In the back left Samuel asks God for advice and in the back right David is fetched to appear before Samuel. In the middle below a cartouche with a three-line text in Latin. Below the image a Latin reference to the biblical text in 1 Samuel 16. This print is part of an album.
