About this work

A Roma woman (Nuba according to the caption) stands in front of a thick tree opposite a young elegant lady - she reads her palm and/or takes a coin from her. Behind the young woman, a lady with a hat, next to her a small dog. On the right, two seated Roma women, one with a baby in her arms. In the six-line Latin caption, the young lady is portrayed as a credulous simpleton who only hears the future she wishes to hear.
