About this work
Statue of Hercules, known as the Farnese Hercules. Hercules, muscular and heavily built, stands naked in a niche and leans on his club. The lion skin hangs over the club. The statue was carved in the third century AD from marble after an antique sculpture by Glycon and is currently in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Previously it stood in Palazzo Farnese, from where it got its name. On a rock block next to Hercules some words in Greek. The print has a Latin inscription.
