About this work

The man tears his heart open. The personification of Truth (Veritas), a naked woman with a radiant sun on her forehead, emerges from the earth. Above the man appears Justice (Justitia), with her attributes (scales and blindfold). Justice shows the man a crucifix. If the man shows repentance (Poenitens) for his sins, truth comes to light. Through repentance and truth, the man now has sight of God's justice. The print has a Latin and a Dutch inscription and is part of a series on the triumph of truth.
