About this work
John the Baptist baptizes Christ in the Jordan. Christ kneels on a stone in the water; John holds his hand over his head. The Holy Spirit descends upon Christ as a dove. To the left, John instructs a group of scribes. To the right, along the water, are the baptized. In the background, Christ's departure for the wilderness is visible.
