About this work

The virtuous housewife serves food for her family. She wears a wool-lined cloak. In the background a winter scene with skaters on a river. The print is based on Proverbs 31:15: 'She rises while it is still night and provides food for her household and tasks for her maids' and Proverbs 31:21: 'She is not afraid of the snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet'. Below the image a paraphrase of these Bible verses in German. This print forms part of an album.
