The evangelist John sits under a tree on the ground, a thick book on his lap. In his right hand he has a writing quill which he dips in the inkwell, held by the eagle, his attribute. On the right in the background Christ as the good shepherd; on the left in the background the baptism of Christ in the Jordan. Below the illustration a two-line text in Latin.
