About this work

The Lyceum Henri IV in Paris depicted in bird's-eye perspective, the building is worked out to the smallest details. In the foreground skating figures are depicted and figures engaged in other physical exercises. Notable is the difference in proportions relative to the buildings and the small figures in the landscape. Also the figures in the row at Caritas, right in the foreground, are depicted large. In the seventh state the artist changed the representation drastically, he filled the sheet to the top with buildings and thereby replaced the almost empty plane with air and the sea at the horizon. Under the representation stands a French text.
