About this work
French caricature on the loss of Ghent. The city was taken on 9 March 1678 by the French army under King Louis XIV. A Spaniard vainly searches with spectacles and a lantern for his lost glove (gand - Ghent) which the Frenchman holds on the tip of his sword. A Fleming points the Spaniard to the Frenchman with the glove.
