About this work

A seated woman holds her fan with her mouth, so that she has been able to catch a firefly with both hands. Next to her stands a small lantern on the ground, where more fireflies are inside. In the background the silhouette of a standing woman trying to catch fireflies with her fan. Satsuki is the name for the fifth month of the old lunar calendar of Japan. The fifth month corresponds to the month of June.
