About this work
This old brothel in the Rue des mauvais Garcons in Paris was demolished in 1851. Notable is the sketchy character of the representation, which we also see in the preliminary study. Few details are worked out and the representation seems to consist mainly of light and dark areas. The poem, which stands above the representation in three couplets, concerns the affairs in this street where men visited the brothel.
