About this work
The Danish artist Ilsted focused in his work primarily on the representation of figures in simple interiors. The family members are therefore not individually characterized in this family portrait. Ilsted specialized in making mezzotints, a technique that was popular in the 18th century; he often colored these by hand. Light and atmosphere always play a special role in his work.
