About this work

Allegory of painting. A female figure, in a landscape with ancient buildings, sitting on a chair before a painter's easel with a blank panel. A painter's staff stands against the easel. Three putti sit around the woman. One points to the panel, the second rubs paint on a whetstone, the third prepares the palette. Print used as a title page for a collector's album of prints by engravers of the Dutch school. Text in the lower margin. Below the scene, names of artists in two columns.
