About this work
Francesco Algarotti (1712-1764) was an art patron and commissioner, scientist, and theorist. When he was ill and felt his death approaching, he gave his friend Mauro Tesi the commission to design a monument for him. The architect Carlo Bianconi was asked to execute the design. It was erected in the Camposanto in Pisa, where it is still located. On the print, it is admired by a company of ladies and gentlemen. On the steps of the monument, a beggar.
