About this work

Nitta Shiro Tadatsune sits backwards on a running boar. According to the story, a wild boar threatened to attack shogun Yoritomo during a hunting party. Nitta jumped from his horse onto the animal and managed to subdue it. The shadow lines on Mount Fuji in the background of this calendar print indicate the sequence of long and short months.
