About this work

Within a cartouche, inside an oval, is a sculpted female bust with a six-pointed star on her chest. A rooster flies with a laurel wreath and a star between its claws toward the bust. The oval is flanked by two putti dressed as Mercury and Minerva; at the bottom lie a mirror, a snake, and an oil lamp. On top of the cartouche is a shelf with books and a scroll with the words: Indefessa Caput Sertis Vigilantia Cingit.
