About this work

Standing woman dressed in a cotton batiste (percale) gown, the sleeves and hem trimmed with ruffles. On her head a bonnet of checkered tulle adorned with ears of wheat and bellflowers. Further accessories: belt with a zig-zag pattern, gloves, parasol, flat shoes with square toes. Trial proof of a print from the fashion magazine Journal des Dames et des Modes, published by Pierre de la Mésangère, Paris, 1797-1839.
