About this work

Two women in an interior, standing before open balcony doors. Left: Scottish plaid dress with boat neck, pointed bodice, and skirt with two gathered fabric strips. Short sleeves with long under-sleeves (mameluk sleeves). Small bag or pouch in hand. Right: high-closed dress with a row of round ornaments or buttons down the front. Tight-fitting long sleeves.
