About this work

Two women on the beach, one taking a coin from a purse to give to an armless girl. 'Toilettes de campagne'. Left: dress and fichu of white mousseline, decorated with ribbons of taffeta and 'guipure'. 'Chapeau Valois' of 'paille d'Italie', trimmed with taffeta, black lace and white tulle. Right: mantelet with berthe and dress of taffeta, decorated with a 'guipure à effilés', 'chenille' buttons and silk tassels. According to the caption: 'toilettes' by Lhopiteau. Dresses by Pauline Conter. 'Modes' by Alexandrine. Below the scene a few lines of advertising text for various products. Print from the fashion magazine Journal des Dames et des Demoiselles (1841-1902). Extensive description of the clothing on pages 282 and 283 "DESCRIPTION DE LA PLANCHE DE MODES."
