About this work
A woman, dressed according to the fashion of 1896, looks with a lorgnette at a painting or large fashion print from 1831 (No. 844 of the fashion magazine Petit Courrier des Dames). The woman in the painting wears, according to the accompanying caption, a gown of 'gros d'orient'. 'Coiffure' by Bernardel. The lady from 1896 wears a gown with pagoda sleeves by Galardi and a 'Chapeau Héléna'. Below the image, several lines of advertising text for various products. Print from the fashion magazine Journal des Demoiselles (1833–1922).
