About this work
A lady in a 17th-century morning gown sits at her dressing table. She strokes a lapdog while a maid does her hair. A servant holds a cup and saucer. A garment is draped over an armchair. A four-poster bed against the back wall. In the painting by Netscher (ca. 1665) (V&A), the jacket is bright red and the petticoat yellow.
