Accompanying text (pp. 191/192) states: Fig. 1: Parisian Fashion. Toque of 'satin lamée' decorated with feathers. Jacket of satin, trimmed with ruffles of gauze and bouquets of violets. White gloves and white shoes. Fig. 2: German fashion. Hairstyle 'à la polonaise' decorated with light blue crepe and an 'esprit'. Fig. 3: Simple hairstyle with hair gathered in a knot on top of the head and a demi-guirlande, decorated with 'gaze de soie'. Both coiffures are designs by J. P. van der Heyden, hairdresser in Frankfurt am Main. The print is part of the fashion magazine *Journal des Dames et des Modes*, published in Frankfurt as a copy of the French edition by Pierre de la Mésangère, Paris, 1797–1839.
