Accompanying text (pp. 215–216) states: Fig. 1–3: French costumes. Fig. 1: Hairstyle decorated with chrysanthemums. Ball gown of gauze, bodice and sleeves decorated with remplis. White gloves. Fig. 2: Hairstyle decorated with cardinal flowers and golden ears of corn. Jacket of tulle with a 'corsage gallo-grec' (bodice). White gloves. Fig. 3: Hat of crepe, decorated with ostrich feathers. Redingote of gros de Naples, trimmed with a ruffle of crepe. White gloves. Fig. 4: English fashion. Hairstyle with hair braided from the back in Greek style and wound around the head; small curls on the forehead. Jacket of velvet, bodice and sleeves decorated with lace, pearls, and satin. Necklace and earrings of pearls (or beads). Leather gloves. The print is part of the fashion magazine *Journal des Dames et des Modes*, published in Frankfurt as a copy of the French edition by Pierre de la Mésangère, Paris, 1797–1839.
