About this work
Allegorical representation in which Courage (Courage), dressed in a chiton and wearing a Phrygian cap on his head, swears an oath of loyalty to the Fatherland (Patrie). He is crowned with a laurel wreath by Triumph. Behind him is Liberty (La Liberté) or Marianne on a sculpted throne. Behind the allegory of the Fatherland, two female figures offer sacrifices at the altar of the Fatherland (Autel de la Patrie) and a naked youth blows a horn. Surrounded by an ornamental border.
