About this work

A large group of old men kneeling at the entrance of a cave before a skeleton holding a book with the inscription: 'Quidquid latet apparebit' (from the Dies Irae). Beneath the skeleton lies a second skeleton whose skull is being touched by a bearded man. A man in the foreground lies bent over with his head against the ground.
