About this work
The boy pushing the raft wears a shirt with a hare (reference to the Year of the Hare). From the series 'Small Children on the Six Crystal Rivers'. The inscription is a poem by Minamoto no Toshiyori: The moon, shining over the temple steps, came to life in the colorful waves of the crystal-clear Noji River, as if morning would never come. Minamoto no Toshiyori's 'Noji no tamagawa' is one of the 'Six Crystal Rivers'. 'Hagi' is Lespedeza, a Japanese clover, the bush the boys are pulling on.
