About this work

Jacob lies asleep against a stone and dreams of a ladder reaching to heaven, along which angels ascend and descend. At the top of the ladder, the tetragram as a symbol of God the Father. Below the image, a reference in Latin to the biblical text in Genesis 28. Part of a series of 4 prints on the history of Jacob and Esau. Numbered in the lower right: 3. Part of an album with mainly Christian subjects.
