About this work
The sorceress Circe had fallen in love with Picus, king of Ausonia. He, however, rejected her love because he was already in love with the nymph Canens. In anger, Circe transforms him into a woodpecker. In the distance, Picus' page waits with the falcon and hunting dogs by his horse.
