About this work

2021 is the Year of the Ox. He is depicted reclining on the yellow lid of the incense box. Stroking a figurine of an ox was thought to bring good fortune. Behind the ox is the feather of a falcon, which was used in an incense game. Because of its striped pattern, the feather can also refer to the Year of the Tiger, which follows the Year of the Ox.
