To the left of the scene, God appears to Isaac and forbids him to go to Egypt. The tetragram symbolizes God the Father. Isaac remained in Gerar. When the inhabitants of this city asked Isaac about his wife, he said she was his sister. To the right, Abimelech, king of the Philistines, looks out of the window of his palace and sees Isaac caressing Rebekah (Gen. 26:8).
