Collector's album with woodcuts by Christoffel van Sichem
From the collection of Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Free to download, adapt and use — no permission needed.
Collector's album with 750 mounted woodcuts and 2 typographical title pages on 135 blue album leaves. Also included are two loose woodcuts in the album. These are mainly book illustrations by Christoffel (II) and Christoffel (III) van Sichem, originating from publications by Jacob Pietersz Paets and Jan Klooster. The woodcuts were repeatedly used, especially in Paets' works, in different contexts. The meaning of several images in this album can only be derived from the position of the print among the other woodcuts. The woodcuts were cut after designs by various Dutch and German printmakers. Parchment binding with a loose oval blue leaf at the back.
