About this work

Interior with Mary Magdalene at a dressing table. Weeping, she removes her jewelry, bidding farewell to her luxurious (sinful) life. In the background right, the penitent Mary Magdalene, kneeling before a crucifix in a grotto. The representation here is used as an image of Queen Esther. It was forbidden for anyone to appear uninvited before King Ahasuerus. Esther put on her finest clothes and gathered all her courage. The print is part of an album.
