About this work

On a square stands a peep show with multiple viewing holes. Behind the stand is the owner, who is moving a lever that protrudes above the stand. In front of the stand stand eight men, women, and children. Around the central scene are seven smaller scenes, including a woman with an oar, an elephant, a man with a turban, and two bearers in conversation with a woman carrying a stack of baskets on her head. Numbered in the bottom right: No. 42.
