About this work

The well-known Amsterdam shoe shiner Isaac Betel, also known as 'Isaac op den Dam'. In his left hand he holds a box with shoe-shining materials. He is probably holding up a tram ticket in his right hand. In the background the monument De Eendracht, nicknamed 'Naatje op de Dam'.
