About this work
The (possibly idealized) interior of Basan's shop at rue Serpente no. 14 in Paris, with bookshelves and framed works along the walls, classical statues, vases and a globe. In the center a table with a cloth bearing the initials HLB (Henry Louis Basan). On the right someone is reading in the Dictionnaire des Graveurs, written by his father Pierre François Basan, on the left someone is reading in another famous publication of Basan, the Cabinet de Choiseuil.
