About this work
A draftsman, dressed in a frock coat, boots, and a flat hat with a wide brim, sits on a tree stump, sketching in a sketchbook, holding a drawing of a girl's head in his left hand. On the sketchbook is the text 'L' amour maitre de tous les arts'. In front of him on the ground lie an antique head and a man's head with a grimace.
