About this work

Allegory on the power of women. Naked personification of the power of women. Two children, fruits of the land and weapons at her feet. She spits milk from her breast into the mouth of one of the children. The inscription refers to the contest among the bodyguards of the Persian king Darius over who is the most powerful (3 Esdras 4: 13-33). Part of a series of four allegories.
