About this work
Allegory on the power of truth. A naked winged female personification of Truth, standing on a triangle, points with her right hand to the sun. In her left hand she holds an open book with seven seals and a bridle with reins. She is crowned with a laurel wreath by two cherubs. The inscription refers to the contest among the bodyguards of the Persian king Darius over who is the most powerful (3 Esdras 4: 13-33). Part of a series of four allegories.
