About this work

An emblem with two representations. Above: a landscape with a castle and a church, and above them a sun and a star. Below: the personification of Peace. She sets weapons on fire at a Christian temple. Behind her people perish by flames and fire from heaven. These are devices of Maria Emanuela of Portugal and Mary I of England, wives of King Philip II.
