About this work

The personification of the province of Utrecht sits enthroned with crown, scepter, corresponding coat of arms, a Bible, and the cap of liberty on her lap. Beside her stand a bishop, a cleric, a knight, and a putto with coats of arms. To the right sits the city maiden of Utrecht with the coats of arms of the cities Utrecht, Amersfoort, Rhenen, and Montfoort. She sits on a flowing jug as a symbol of the Rhine. In the background a view of the city of Utrecht.
