About this work

History sits writing next to a map of Spain and Portugal on a pedestal. Putti stand and sit beside her with a cornucopia and city views of Madrid and Lisbon. Above the pedestal the coats of arms of the two countries. Next to them stand a man with a hat and a Dominican with a banner depicting Dominic with sword, olive branch, and lamb. To the left a putto reveals the map of America on a globe.
