Detail of the spiral carved frieze on the Column of Marcus Aurelius in Rome. The frieze depicts the war between the Roman army of Emperor Marcus Aurelius and the Germanic tribes of the Marcomanni and Quadi, and the war against the Sarmatians who invaded Hungary from present-day Iran.
