The Aldobrandine Wedding (right part)

A wall painting from the Augustan period, rediscovered around 1606 on the Esquiline in Rome. It depicts in three scenes the preparations for a wedding. On the left, a woman preparing bathwater. In the center, a veiled bride sits on a bed. Next to her, two half-naked female figures (Peitho or Aphrodite and Charis) and a garlanded young man (Hymenaeus or the groom). On the right, three women, one of whom pours perfume, a second plays a lyre, and a third directs the ceremony. Title above the scene. Print is part of an album.
