About this work
Minerva sits next to History and looks over her shoulder at the book in which she writes. History looks up at three allegorical female figures (Truth, Poetry, and a third figure). Behind them, Father Time, Fame, and a two-headed figure who with a chisel strikes an inscription into a pyramid. In the air, four putti fly, holding symbols of eternity in their hands, carrying the portrait of the writer Edward Simson.
