About this work
Kabuki actor Nakajima Miho-emon II disguised as a courtier. Under his arm he carries a straw mat, in which he probably hides a sword. The pattern of hats on his clothing refers to the Seven Treasures and would make him invisible. On his head the characteristic court hat. The red makeup around his eyes emphasizes strength and perseverance.
