About this work

Kabuki actor Sawamura Sôjûrô III in the role of Oda Izuminosuke dances with a bamboo branch in his hand. His trousers with long, floor-sweeping legs have a pattern of chrysanthemums. The flying cranes on the top of his costume are symbols of good luck. This print depicts a scene from the play Keisei Ide no Yamabuki, performed at the Nakamura theater on June 6, 1787.
