About this work
Kabuki actor Onoe Kikujirô in a female role as Karaginu preparing before a mirror. In the background, a snowy landscape, by Kunihisa. Karaginu is a character in the novel Inaka Genji by Ryûtei Tanehiko, corresponding to the character Utsusemi in the novel Genji Monogatari. The flowers in the title cartouche refer to the actor's family crest.
