About this work

Scene acted out by skeletons. A prince with a crown rises from his bed. The same skeleton, or another, lies down on a bier and holds his hand to the crown on his head, surrounded by other members of the court, ca. 1780 (?). At the top a cherub blows a large trumpet. The subject of the scene is unclear. Annotations on the passe-partout refer to Empress Maria Theresia (1717-1780) and Emperor Francis I (1708-1765).
