About this work

Izutsuya Denbei, fleeing from the authorities after murdering a man, is in love with the courtesan Oshun. The brothel owner had sent Oshun back to her parental home in Horikawa to avoid trouble with Denbei. One night, Denbei visits Oshun, here depicted in silhouette in the window, in Horikawa, after which they marry.
