About this work

Salome with the severed head of John the Baptist, which she has just kissed. The blood flowing from the head nourishes a lily blooming in a pool. In the background, concentric circles of peacock feathers. Illustration for an edition of the play Salome by Oscar Wilde, first published in 1893.
